“The Unit” By Ninni Holmqvist

Imagine living in a world where you are considered “dispensable” if you are not contributing to society at your 50th (female) or 60th (male) birthday. By being single, childless and without a job in a progressive industry, you will be hidden away for your final years in a facility (The Second Reserve Bank Unit for biological material) which will essentially use you as a test rat and source of organs for those who are “needed” out in the community. You will be well fed and taken care of during your stay, with the exception of any side effects you may incur from your testing. You will be permitted no contact with the outside world and under constant video and audio surveilance.
This is the story of Dorrit, who enters The Unit, her experiences there, falling in love, loss and so much more.
Ninni Holmqvist’s The Unit is a shocking look at one way of handling the need for organ donation, an idea that seems almost frighteningly possible. [Click the link to read more reviews]
